No decision on dam without consent of Sindh: CM

By Our Correspondent

THATTA, March 28: Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim has said he is alive to protests against the Kalabagh dam, including Sindh Assembly’s resolutions, and added that no decision will be taken on the issue without consent of people of Sindh.

Talking to journalists at the shrine of Sufi Shah Inayat Shaheed on the eve of his 269th Urs in Jhoke Sharif here on Monday, he held bureaucracy and feudal lords of Sindh equally responsible for water crisis in the province.

He said his government was doing its best to resolve the issue on permanent basis. He said mismanagement with regard to water distribution would not be tolerated.

The chief minister maintained that Sindh would receive its due share of water.

About the National Finance Commission award, he said a special team from Islamabad had arrived in Sindh to resolve the problem. He hoped the issue would soon be settled.

Referring to creation of four new districts in Sindh, Dr Rahim claimed that people of these areas had welcomed bifurcation of districts.

About the killing of four protesters in Qambar, he observed that people had resorted to protest because they had differences over the name of the district. He claimed that no protest had been held against the bifurcation of the district.

He said vital changes were underway in the agriculture department to make it more productive.

The chief minister observed that law and order situation had improved during his government.

He claimed that the Balochistan situation was fast returning to normalcy due to political deliberations and wise steps of Pakistan Muslim League president Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and general-secretary Mushahid Hussain Syed.

Dr Rahim said he had directed the Thatta DCO to solve problems of employees of the defunct Thatta Sugar Mills and submit him a report.

Earlier, the chief minister, accompanied by Syed Aijaz Shah Shirazi, Syed Shafqat Hussain Shah and Sajjada Nasheen Sufi Ayatullah Sattari, laid a floral wreath on the shrine and paid tribute to Sufi Inayat for his services.
