Need to conserve water stressed

ISLAMABAD, March 27: Participants of a walk here on Sunday emphasized the need for conservation of water for the sake of future generations. The participants were holding banners and placards inscribed with slogans asking the policymakers and people concerned to take timely steps to ensure continued supply of water, especially for agricultural purposes.

The walk started from Jinnah Avenue-Faisal Avenue crossing and culminated at F-9 Park where a number of speakers highlighted the importance of water reservoirs for the country.

They said access to potable water was the basic right of every individual, adding that it was the duty of the government to provide clean water to the people.

The speakers also voiced their concern over the increasing incidence of water-borne diseases across the country and called for immediate steps to address the issue. They also asked the citizens to play their due role in proper use of water and avoid wasting the precious commodity. In Pakistan, they said, there was very little awareness among the masses of water conservation.—Our Reporter
