BAHAWALPUR, March 26: An FM radio station will be set up at the Islamia University Bahawalpur’s mass communication department.This was stated by department chairman Prof Sajjad Piracha while talking to journalists here on Saturday. He said the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority had issued a licence for 10 years to the university. The radio station, he said, would help educate students on broadcasting.He said it would be set up within the next few months during which its machinery and equipment would be installed on the Baghdadul Jadid campus. Meanwhile, the IUB’s public relations department claimed that the university had made remarkable progress in the past three years. In a press release, the department said the HEC had approved the university’s 11 projects while 13 others were under way.

>DEATH SENTENCE:Additional District and Sessions Judge on Saturday handed down death sentence and Rs50,000 fine to a man, who had killed his friend at Machli Bazaar here last year.

According to the prosecution, Nadeem alias Rangeela killed his friend and namesake, Nadeem, over a petty dispute.

The court, however, acquitted co-accused Abdul Malik.

Meanwhile, Mudassar and Qasim were awarded life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs50,000 each for torturing Muhammad Hanif to death last year.

Azhar Islam was, however, acquitted.

KILLED: A man was killed and 14 others injured in three road accidents in and around the district on Saturday.

Reports said Manzoor was run over and killed by a trolley, which was coming from Channan Pir Mela.

As many as 14 people suffered injuries in two accidents near Khanqah Sharif, about 15 kilometres from Bahawalpur.
