Doctor, son shot dead in Swabi

By Our Correspondent

SWABI, March 26: The dental specialist at the Swabi DHQ hospital and his son were shot dead by a former joint secretary of the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) here on Saturday, police said. Dr Sher Hashim Khan and his son Tariq Iqbal, who ran a medical store, were coming to Swabi in their car. When they reached near the Salim Khan entry point on the Shakh-Swabi Road, former PML-N joint secretary Rehan Shah opened fire at them, killing Tariq and injuring Dr Khan who succumbed to injuries in a hospital, police said. The cause of the killing is said to be a dispute over a route linking Dr Khan’s house to the main road. Sources said Rehan Shah had sold the disputed piece of land to Dr Khan who had made the payment. But Rehan Shah claimed that Dr Khan had occupied an extra portion of the land.

Meanwhile, local doctors and paramedical staff at an emergency meeting decided that they would go on an indefinite strike if the police failed to arrest the killer by Monday. The participants wore black arm-bands.

Local leaders of political parties condemned the killing and demanded arrest of the killer.

A son of the deceased doctor has lodged an FIR against Rehan Shah.
