NAUSHAHRO FEROZE: Villagers stage sit-in against power cut-off

By Our Correspondent

NAUSHAHRO FEROZE, March 26: Residents of Molhan village blocked the Naushahro Feroze-Tharushah road for about four hours to protest against the disconnection of power supply to their village on Saturday. They complained that the Hesco authorities had disconnected power supply to the village on Friday as a result of which they were facing hardship. Tharushah’s in-charge TPO Fida Awan along with a police team reached the spot and held talks with the protesters but they continued the protest. Naushahro Feroze DCO Nazar Mohammad Kalhoro, DPO Abdul Haq Korai and Hesco authorities reached the spot and held talks with them but the protesters demanded restoration of power supply. Hesco SDO Iqbal Rajput said there were heavy outstanding dues against the villagers.

Hesco Naushahro Feroze executive engineer Shabbir Kalhoro said an amount of Rs0.925 million was outstanding against six brothers Ghulam Murtaza, Mumtaz Ali, Ramzan, Riazuddin Rehman, Aftab Ali and Shabbir Ahmed, all Molhan by caste, and Rs0.445 million against 37 other consumers of the village.

He said after disconnection of power the villagers were stealing electricity.

Mr Kalhoro said power supply would be restored after replacing the conductor so that electricity might be kept out of houses of the villagers.

Due to continuous protest and blockage of traffic, Hesco authorities restored power supply in the afternoon at the intervention of the district administration.

PROTEST: Residents of Mohib Tunio, Abiani, Gagnaee, Pir Kararo and Ghulam Hyder Kalhoro villages staged a demonstration outside Hesco complaint centre in Khan Wahan and burnt tyres and blocked the Khan Wahan-Kandiaro link road for one hour in protest against Hesco for disconnecting power supply to their villages on Saturday.

They complained that Mehrabpur Hesco SDO Azhar Shah disconnected power supply to their villages on allegations of stealing power whereas no dues were outstanding except few consumers.

They threatened to block the National Highway and expand their protest if power supply to their villages was not restored immediately.
