Hashmi, jail official exchange hot words

RAWALPINDI, March 23: ARD President Makhdoom Javed Hashmi had a quarrel with an official of the Adiala Jail after the latter asked MNA Maimoona Hashmi to follow ‘security rules’ while leaving the jail premises, a source said.

The spat between the ARD leader and the Deputy Superintendent Sheikh Ijaz Qadir started when Ms Hashmi was leaving the jail after meeting her father. The jail authorities said when Ms Hashmi was leaving the jail at around 5.30pm, the security staff asked her to pass through the “walk-through” gate.

As there were many people waiting to pass through the security check, it took time for her to leave, the source said. “Ms Hashmi asked the jail authorities to allow her to pass through the gate, which was usually opened for high officials and parliamentarians.”

However, the source said, the jail officials refused to do so, which resulted in the exchange of hot words between the ARD leader and the jail official.— Staff Reporter
