US team calls on Pervaiz

LAHORE, March 23: The present government is taking all necessary steps for the protection of human rights, peace and stability and promotion of brotherhood. Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi said this while talking to an American delegation which called on him here at his residence. He said the government had permitted full freedom of expression in accordance with democratic norms while modern methods of information technology had been adopted to enhance the administrative capability of government departments. The process of computerization had also been accelerated to simplify government procedures.

The government, he said, was paying special attention to protecting the rights of women and implementing the programme of the revival of country’s economy. It was also focussing on children rights and their development.

The chief minister said the human resource development was a basic point of government’s programme. The working of social and economic development sectors was being enhanced through better education, research and training.

He said democratic institutions in the country were playing an important role in reforming various sectors, and legislation. Powers had been transferred at the lower level through the district government system, he added.
