KARACHI: Dow varsity to impart training to teachers

KARACHI, March 23: The Higher Education Commission has selected the Dow University of Health Sciences to work as its resources centre for imparting training to teachers involved in higher education within Karachi region.

In all, 10 centres have been planned under the National Academy of Higher Education of the HEC in the country, aiming at enhancing the basic competence of faculty posted at public sector universities and degree colleges. The DUHS centre will start the training course in May.

Giving details about the programme, the HEC coordinator at the Dow University of Health Sciences, Prof Shoaib Tauheed, said nominations from public sector universities and degree colleges in Karachi had already been sought and it was likely that about 350 teachers would be trained at Karachi in one year.

A batch of 35 teachers will undergo training for one month. They would be trained in teaching methodologies, information technology, administrative skills, learners and teachers psychology, curriculum designing and research methodologies, he added, saying that each trainee would be awarded a certificate of HEC and certain honorarium at the end of training.
