KARACHI: Transparency in master plan ordered


KARACHI, March 22: The City Nazim, Niamatullah Khan, on Tuesday directed officials of the city government to make impartial and transparent the process of tender, pre-qualification and work award regarding the new master plan for Karachi.

He was chairing a meeting about the Karachi Master Plan 2020.

Mr Niamat stressed the need for devising a long-term master plan to ensure provision of basic facilities to people and turning the metropolis into a model city.

He said the new master plan should have a legal cover and be devoid of flaws, adding the master plan devised in the past should be executed till the new plan was finalized.

Niamat directed the concerned committee to scrutinize proposals and recommendations of various companies on technical grounds and select a consultant firm on merit.

The meeting was told that some four companies had pre-qualified for consultancy services for the Master Plan 2020 and their proposals were being under technical and legal consideration.

KATCHI ABADIES: The city government has decided not to dispute with the Sindh Katchi Abadies Authority (SKAA) in leasing slums.

The City Nazim, Niamatullah Khan, said the katchi abadies departments of both the Sindh and city governments were working for the benefit of people, so where SKAA was doing lease work, its city government counterpart department should not work there.

He constituted a committee comprising Nazim Gulshan-i-Iqbal Town Abdul Wahab to conduct surprise visits of lease camp offices.

Besides, DCO Fazlur Rehman would hold a meeting after every 15 days to review lease work. The DCO said stern action would be taken against officials involve in seeking bribes in return for lease work.

The meeting decided that six DDOs would be given to the Katchi Abadies Department of the city government from the Master Plan Department. It was also decided that DDOs would be deployed at 13 towns to facilitate people in lease work.

MARCH PAST: City Nazim Niamatullah Khan appreciating the fervour and love of students said he was sure this generation would succeed in making Pakistan an ideological state.

He said this after inspecting a march past and physical displays of girl guides and girl students at National Coaching Centre Auditorium, here on Tuesday.

The nazim appreciated the performance of students and wished that the president should watch this display but due to his engagements, he could not attend it.

According to the nazim, President Musharraf directed to hold a display and march past of students and announced that it would be held in the second week of May.

Earlier, hundreds of students of girls schools, running under the City District Government Karachi (CDGK), participated in the march past and physical display in connection with the preparation of Pakistan Day.

Different groups of students and girl guides saluted the city nazim and took part in a five-hour long physical display session to express their love with Pakistan.

Later, City Nazim Naimatuulah Khan gave away awards to students for their performance in the march past.—PPI
