KARACHI, March 22: The Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (F) referring to the deteriorating situation in Balochistan has said if the army operation was not stopped forthwith, the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) would not hesitate to part ways with the government in Balochistan.
The JUI Secretary General, Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri, who was addressing a press conference on Tuesday afternoon, demanded a halt to the army operation in Balochistan and withdrawal of troops from Dera Bugti and Sui for holding meaningful dialogue to solve the Balochistan imbroglio.
He condemned the kidnapping and torture of Baloch nationalist leaders Dr Abdul Hayee Baloch, Irfan Agha and demanded a high-level inquiry into the matter.
The JUI leader said if Dr Hayee Baloch could be kidnapped then no political leaders including Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain were secure.
He accused Gen Pervez Musharraf of pursuing a policy to disintegrate the country.
After the 9/11 incident, Musharraf had raised the slogan of ‘Pakistan first’ and started an operation in Wana. Now again, the government was resorting to a similar action, which would prove dangerous for the country’s solidarity, he said.
Maulana Haideri warned that if the grave situation in Balochistan was not tackled politically, it could lead to a situation similar to the East Pakistan tragedy.
