WB-IMF meetings

WASHINGTON, March 22: A delegation from Pakistan is scheduled to arrive here on April 14 to attend the 2005 spring meetings of the World Bank and the IMF to be held on April 16-17. Besides representing Pakistan at these important meetings, the delegation will also hold a number of bilateral meetings, sources say. The delegation is likely to comprise Salman Shah, adviser to the prime minister on economic affairs, SBP Governor Dr Ishrat Husain and Finance Secretary Naveed Ahsan.

Also in schedule is a reception to be hosted for the delegation at the Pakistan Embassy on April 14, when Salman Shah and Dr Ishrat Husain will speak on Pakistan’s economic strategy, performance and achievements made. On April 15, a meeting of G-24 will be held.

Each spring, the joint Bank-IMF Development Committee and the IMF’s International Monetary and Financial Committee hold meetings to discuss progress on the work of the bank and the Fund, IMF sources said.—APP
