LAHORE, March 22: Norwegian telecom operator Telenor extended its mobile telephone service to Lahore, Faisalabad and Hyderabad on Tuesday. The company had already opened its service in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Karachi on March 15. It has become the fifth entrant in the country’s competitive cellular market.
Speaking at a press conference here in a local hotel Telenor Chief Executive Tore Johnsen said the company would launch its operation in Gujrat, Gujranawala and Jehlum in April and subsequently in the other major cities of the country.
Under the contract, he said the company had to cover the
70 per cent population of the country in four years and it would invest $ billion more if business prospects were found brighter. He said the base stations would also be set up in these cities to address complaints regarding the network.
