PESHAWAR, March 21: Wapda, five-time winners of national championship in (1983, 1991, 2001, 2003, 2004), and another seven teams have confirmed their participation in the inaugural AFC President’s Cup scheduled to be held from May 4-14 this year.
Pakistan, Nepal and Tajikistan are in run for hosting the event.
A Pakistani club will return to Asian Football Confederation (AFC) event after 2000.
The Organizing Committee for the AFC President’s Cup will meet on Tuesday in AFC House to decide on the venue, finalize preparations, draws and registration of clubs and players for the inaugural 11-day competition.
Champions of this inaugural tournament will receive prize money of US $50,000 and US $25,000 for runners-up.
The other seven participants are Blue Stars Sports Club (Sri Lanka), Tai Power Company (Chinese Taipei), Dordoi Dynamo (Kyrgyzstan), Hello United (Cambodia), Transport United (Bhutan), Three Star Club (Nepal) and Metallurg (Tajikistan).—APP
