LPG cylinder price cut by Rs40

Published March 22, 2005

LAHORE, March 21: The Jamshoro Joint Venture gas company on Monday announced a Rs40 cut in the price of 11.8kg liquefied petroleum gas cylinder in view of an increase in its production. Announcing the cut at a press conference here on Monday, JJV Associated Group Director Fasih Ahmed said that the company had reduced the LPG price for its distributors by Rs65 during the past two weeks. The price had been reduced by Rs25 per cylinder last week.

He said that the LPG production capacity in the country had increased by over 50 per cent a day following the commissioning of the Jamshoro plant with a capacity of 550 tons per day. Total production capacity of Parco and OGDC gas plants already functioning in the country was 950 tons per day. It had now increased to 1,500 tons.

He said the LPG retail price was expected to decrease to around Rs32 per kg in the open market following the reduction in its wholesale price. The gas would not be available at a uniform price throughout the country because the dealers added transportation charges of Rs10 to 15 to the price of every cylinder, he added. He said the company was trying to seek the federal government’s permission for installation of LPG filling stations as it would cost around Rs18 per litre, whereas petrol was being sold for over Rs45 per litre.
