DADU, March 21: Federal Minister for Water and Power Liaquat Ali Jatoi has said that 70,000 gallons of drinking water will be supplied to Johi town daily under a scheme costing Rs3.9 million. He said that water supply, roads, parks and electricity schemes at the Gorakh hill station would be provided by June 30 this year.

Speaking at a public gathering after the ground-breaking ceremony of the water supply scheme in Johi on Sunday, he said under special packages of the president and prime minister development schemes worth Rs350 million were being carried out in far-flung areas of the district.

He said electricity was surplus and there would be no loadshedding in the country. He claimed Sindh was getting complete share of the water and it was available in sufficient quantity in Tarbela and Mangla dams.

He said Pakistan would continue its drive against terrorists. He said with the efforts of President General Pervez Musharraf the relations with India, USA, British and European countries had improved and foreign companies were investing in Pakistan.

He alleged the opposition parties were not interested in development projects of the country hence they were opposing all the policies of General Pervez Musharraf.

He said the government would complete its tenure and general elections would be held in 2007.

He said the rainwater would be stored in Gaj dam which would be used for agricultural and drinking purposes. He said the construction of dams was essential in different parts of the country to end water crises.

Special assistant to Sindh chief minister Dr Manzoor Leghari, MPA Ehsan Jatoi, Sadaqat Ali Jatoi and PML local leaders also spoke on the occasion. Later, the minister visited water pumping schemes of Mado.
