National polo from Monday

LAHORE, March 19: The National Open polo championship for the Quaid-i-Azam Gold Cup will begin here on Monday.

Draws will be held at the Lahore Polo Club on Sunday. Meanwhile, defending champion Bank Alfalah announced its team on Saturday.

It includes international players Shah Shamyl Alam, Shah Qubilai Alam, Usman Haye and Argentina’s Gonzalo Fucci.

Mr Fucci has already arrived here. A bank executive, Shakeel Sadiq, announced a cash award of Rs10,000 for the best photograph of the tournament to encourage photographers.

Later, team captain Shamyl Alam suggested exhibition matches between India and Pakistan to improve the standard of the game.
