KHAIRPUR, March 19: Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal secretary-general Maulana Fazlur Rehman has said that President Gen Pervez Musharraf used to hold people belonging to the People’s Party Parliamentarians responsible for the destruction and economic backwardness of the country but is now holding dialogue with them. Speaking at a gathering at Phool Bagh here on Saturday, he claimed that talks between the government and the PPP leadership were merely for attaining privileges. For his own part, he invited the PPP leadership to join hands with the MMA to end the army’s involvement in national politics. MMA central president Qazi Hussain Ahmed said that President Musharraf should not be party to the upcoming general elections, and added that people were being told not to vote for the MMA saying that they were extremists whereas the government has been following the American traditions. Maulana Sajid Naqvi said that the government had failed to resolve public problems which had deteriorated further. The people had been “burnt” by the rising oil prices, he added. Maulana Abdul Ghafoor said that construction of the Kalabagh dam would result in drying up of Sindh and flooding of the NWFP, but the President was in the least bit concerned.
NAUSHAHRO FEROZE: General Pervez Musharraf is following the dictates of America, having provided full support to the US during the invasion of Afghanistan, and, as such, is not accepted as president by the people of Pakistan.
This was claimed by leaders of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal while speaking at a public meeting held at the Bakra Mandi plot here on Saturday to welcome the party leaders’ ‘Million March’ against the policies of the government of President Gen Pervez Musharraf.
Led by secretary-general Maulana Fazlur Rehman, provincial president Maulana Asadullah Bhutto, and secretary-general Dr Khalid Mehmood Soomro, the MMA caravan reached the town at around 3pm.
Later, central president Qazi Hussain Ahmed also arrived there, and speaking to the gathering, asserted that the people of Pakistan did not like Gen Musharraf for following American directives and exploiting religion.
He regretted that the President had said that Pakistan would remain neutral in the America-Iran dispute, but following the visit of the US foreign minister, he had changed his stance to be with the US.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that Gen Musharraf had no right to advise people to vote for moderate contestants instead of ‘maulvis’.
SHIKARPUR: Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal secretary-general Maulana Fazalur Rehman has observed that the country’s economy as well as constitutional, democratic, moral and Islamic values had been destroyed under the leadership of Gen Pervez Musharraf.
Speaking at a public meeting here on Friday, he criticized the rulers for failing to resolve problems of people. He said the government was doing nothing for well being of the masses. He maintained that the country was facing poor law and order, price hike, unemployment and other problems.
MMA president Qazi Hussain Ahmad opposed the army’s interference in the country’s affairs, especially politics.
He condemned the military operation in Balochistan.
He lashed out at Gen Musharraf for calling religious parties’ leaders extremists.
JACOBABAD: MMA leaders Mr Ahmad and Mr Rehman told a gathering at the DSP Chowk in Kandhkot here on Friday that the president was not capable of resolving issues confronting the country politically. They said due to Gen Musharraf’s policies, not only the image of the army but the solidarity of the country was also at stake.
