ISLAMABAD, March 18: National Assembly was told on Friday that the government would soon the introducing a Child Protection Information Management System for monitoring the physical abuse and violence against children in the country. Responding to a question, Parliamentary Secretary for Population Welfare and Special Education Riffat Amjad told the house that the ministry, in close collaboration with Unicef has planned to monitor and report on the selected child protection indicators at national level. “These indicators include number of children in jails, trafficked children, violence cases registered with the policy through an FIR and violence cases of children handled by the judiciary,” she added. She said successful experiences of the federal ministries and provincial governments would also provide a basis for setting up the new system.

To a question, the parliamentary secretary told the house that still there was not law for protection of the children from physical abuse and violence against them.

She also replied in negative when asked about any data collected by the government on child abuse and violence against them.

When asked about any rehabilitation centre for orphan and street children, she again replied in ‘No’ and said, unfortunately there was also no such centre or institution in the country for rehabilitation of such children.
