Public pays high cost of Musharraf’s visit

BAHAWALPUR, March 18: Heightened security for the visit of President Gen Pervez Musharraf landed people in a difficult situation on Friday. The main roads and streets of the city were under the control of traffic police, assisted by the army, which sealed the major intersections and the route to the Circular Road. As police had erected barricades to divert traffic, motorists had to go through an ordeal. Even the pedestrians were not allowed to move freely at Saddar Pulli, Kali Pulli, Old Campus University Chowk and Farid Gate during the passage of the president’s motorcade. Law enforcers stood on the alert in almost all the parts of the district.

Moreover, a number of buses and wagons impounded for transporting people to the venue for the president’s public address were parked at different places, adding to the public’s inconvenience. — Correspondent
