KARACHI: Ring leader escapes, accomplicekilled

KARACHI, March 16: A close associate of gang leader Arshad Pappu was killed and a police constable was injured in an encounter on Wednesday morning.Two relatives of Pappu were arrested after the encounter which took place in the limits of Pak Colony police station.On a tip off that Arshad Pappu, along with some of his gang members, was present in the Lashari Mohalla in the area, the recently-formed Industrial Crime Unit (ICU) conducted a raid on the specified spot. In the ensuing exchange of fire, a constable, Fawad, and one of the gang members, Abid alias Tingu, were wounded. Abid succumbed to his injuries before being shifted to a hospital.

Shakir and Ghani, stated to be a cousin and a nephew of Pappu, respectively, were arrested from the spot. Two kalashnikovs and a TT pistol were recovered from their possession, police said.

Police said that Arshad Pappu and his other accomplices managed to escape from the scene. Three SHOs of the police stations surrounding the Pak Colony police limits also took part in the ICU operation.

The ICU is headed by ASP Omar Shahid who has been posted as TPO Lyari, replacing DSP Malick Mazhar.

MURDER: A taxi driver was killed in Orangi Town late on Tuesday night.

Police found the body of Gul Feroz Khan, 40, lying in his cab parked near Qasba graveyard early on Wednesday morning. He was stabbed to death. He hailed from Mansehra.
