PESHAWAR, March 15: A meeting of the central committee of the Awami National Party will be held in Rawalpindi on Wednesday to decide the fate of the party’s NWFP committee, 11 of whose office-bearers have resigned.
ANP circles are attaching extra significance to the meeting which would also decide the future of senior party leader Farid Toofan, axed from the office of provincial general secretary after getting his basic party membership suspended by ANP chief Asfandyar Wali Khan on March 2.
Senior ANP leaders said the meeting, to be presided over by Mr Asfandyar, would discuss the situation arising out of the stepping down of 11 office-bearers out of a 15-member provincial ANP who resigned in a revolt against provincial party chief Begum Nasim Wali.—Bureau
