KARACHI: Order reserved on plea against Meera’s film
KARACHI, March 15: The Sindh High Court on Tuesday reserved order on the maintainability of a petition, seeking ban on release of a Bollywood film “Nazar” in Pakistan which generated controversy after performance of film actress Meera with Indian co-star.
Muzafar Hussain Askari submitted that Meera’s action were against Islamic ethics and moral values depicted in the Article of Constitution and are also violative of various provisions of law.
He said in petition that he has no efficacious, alternate remedy except filing Constitutional petition because issues relate to life-style of Muslims, Islamic teachings, morality and image of entire Pakistani nation and if such matter is not given due consideration he and the general public will suffer irreparable loss and shall be seriously prejudiced.
SHC’s bench comprising Chief Justice Saiyed Saeed Ashhad and Justice Maqbool Baqar after hearing reserved order on maintainability of the petition.
Nazar (Sight) is the first-ever joint production of Indian and Pakistani film industry, directed by Indian Director Mahesh Bhutt, in which Meera performed allegedly bold scene with Indian actor Ashmit Patel. — PPI
