Karachi, March 15: An anti-terrorism court put off on Tue-sday the hearing of a case ag-ainst two activists of the banned Hizbul Tehreer after recording statements of accused.
Judge Arshad Noor Khan of the ATC-3 fixed Wednesday for hearing the final arguments.
Dr Ismali Shaikh and Dr Asim-uddun are being prosecuted for carrying out party activities despite ban. They were arrested on Oct 29, 2004, in front of Lal Masjid in Paposhnagar.
According to prosecution, the two activists of the banned outfit had planned to take out a procession for Iraqi Muslims and three banners and four posters, inscribed with pro-Iraq and anti-American slogans were seized from them.
The two accused, however, denied the seizure of the banners and posters. They said they were picked up by policemen in plain-clothes inside the mosque.
MOSQUE BLAST CASE: Judge Haq Nawaz Baloch of the ATC-5 adjourned the hearing of Haideri mosque blast case against a worker of the banned Lashkar-i-Jhangvi after recording statements of six PWs and fixed March 21 for the next hearing.
Special public prosecutor Mazhar Qayyum examined Judicial Magistrate Zahida Perveen and five medico-legal officers -– Dortors Rohina Hasan, Ahmed Ali Memon, Mohammed Soomar, Zeeshan Ahmed and Kalim Ullah.
Defence counel Mushtaq Ahmed also cross-examined the prosecution witnesses.
As many as 26 people were killed and 98 others injured on May 7 when a suicide bomber blew himself inside the mosque.
PUMP BLAST CASE: Judge Aley Maqbool Rizvi of the ATC-1 adjourned the hearing of a petrol pump blast case against two workers of the banned Harkatul Mujahideen Al-Aalmi after recording their statements.
The judge fixed March 16 for hearing of final arguments after the deposition by Sameerullah and Mohammad Khalid.
The two have been charged with planting an explosive device at a petrol pump in Buffer Zone on May 15, 2003.
The accused stated that they were implicated in the case by police. They also disputed the time and date of their arrest. They said they were actually arrested on April 1, 2004, while the police showed their arrest on April 7, 2004.
PLEA DISMISSED: The additional district and sessions judge, South, Abrar Hussain F. Memon, dismissed an application for disposal of revision application of Col (retd) Mohammad Zargham Mirza.
The army officer had earlier lodged a direct complaint before a judicial magistrate for registration of a criminal case against 20 respondents, including Jamil Yousuf and A.D. Khawaja, under Section 182, 500 and 506 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
