KARACHI, March 15: A large number of male and female doctors with their children on Tuesday held a protest demonstration at the Karachi Press Club against the decision of the Anti Terrorist Court (ATC) in the doctor brothers’ case.
Held under the auspices of the Joint Doctors Action Committee (JDAC) comprising the office-bearers of the Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) and the Pakistan Islamic Medical Association (PIMA), participants of the demonstration chanted slogans against the government for pressurizing the courts.
They were carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans against the government and demands of holding a “fair trial” of the doctor brothers. The family members of both sentenced doctors – Dr Akmal Waheed and Dr Arshad Waheed – also attended the demonstration.
The JDAC representative and PIMA President, Dr Misbahul Aziz, alleged that the government pressurized the ATC to get its desired decision against the doctor brothers, and said both doctors had never indulged themselves in any illegal activity.
According to him, relief activities carried out by both doctors were against the aspirations of some foreign forces, which used their influence on the Pakistani government to get these philanthropists convicted by the ATC.
He said the JDAC considered the ATC decision as unjust, and added that it would file an appeal in the high court against it.
Several other representatives of the JDAC also spoke on the occasion. They vowed to continue their protest till justice was done to the detained doctors. — PPI
