BANNU, March 14: The kidnapped naib nazim of Lalozai union council and his driver were released on Monday after about a month.
District Police Officer Abid Ali told a press briefing that the kidnappers belonging to Mamandkhel and Bakakhel tribes had released Naib Nazim Peer Ali Marjan with his driver and pick-up.
He said some Mamandkhel elders told him on Sunday night that the kidnappers were willing to release the kidnapped men.
He said he received Peer Marjan and his driver near the Mirzaeel checkpoint.
Assistant Political Agent of Bannu Frontier Region Khayam Aslam said the administration had apprehended at least 100 people and seized dozens of vehicles of the two tribes and sealed their property and businesses during a month-long operation to recover the kidnapped men.
The DPO said the operation and sanctions against the tribes would continue until those involved in the kidnapping were handed over to the administration.
Peer Marjan said that about 10 people had intercepted his vehicle, blindfolded him and his driver and locked them in a room after a journey of about one and a half hours along the Kurram River. “I don’t know about the area and the people, but they were of Wazir tribe,” he said.
