KARACHI, March 14: Opposition leader in the Sindh Assembly Nisar Ahmad Khuhro on Monday asked Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim to give account of the amount of Rs20 million he had spent on the advertisements to refute allegations levelled by Imtiaz Ahmad Shaikh.
Mr Khuhro was addressing a news conference in his assembly chambers after the Monday session.
He accused the treasury side of wasting time and not allowing opposition to speak on issues. He claimed that the government “which has manipulated majority through coercive and other corrupt means” had no writ.
Mr Khuhro observed that the chief minister had dismissed his revenue minister on corruption charges and was responded in a similar manner to face counter allegations. He questioned the government’s authority to rule over the province in a situation where its ministers were involved in selling away the property that belonged to the people of Sindh.
He also criticized the prime minister for calling for a ‘ceasefire’ between the two leaders of the ruling party, and asked why an FIR was not being registered against the chief minister. “Everyone in the ruling coalition must share the guilt of association and its burden,” he remarked.
Mr Khuhro also pointed out that there were reports of deputy speaker’s involvement in a seven-acre plot scam, whereas an inquiry against 11 ministers was in the offing. He demanded that the names of these ministers be disclosed.
He asked the chief minister that when he knew about the involvement of Imtiaz Shaikh in corruption since Jam Sadiq Ali’s time, then why he had accepted him as the SDA chief.
