KARACHI, March 14: Police arrested two suspects after a shootout in DHA late Sunday night.

Police said suspects on a motorcycle intercepted a motorist in Phase-II Commercial Extension and tried to snatch his cellular phone. As the inmate raised an alarm, a police mobile, passing through the area, rushed to the scene, after which an exchange of fire took place.

Subsequently, a suspect, Noor Mohammad, was wounded while his accomplice Sajjad was arrested.

Police recovered two TT pistols and cellular phones from their possession. SHO Defence said the suspects were involved in over a dozen cases of cellular phone snatchings.

He said several of the complainants who had fallen victim to the cellular phone snatching came to the police station and identified the suspects. The suspects are in their early 20s.

In another incident, police arrested a cellular phone thief from the franchise office of the Ufone located at Khayaban-i-Itthad.

Police said Javed Akhtar had stolen a cell phone from the franchise office and tried to flee. The owner of the office Major Raza informed the police who nabbed him from outside the shop.

Police said 35-year-old well-dressed suspect used to steel cellular phone from the franchise offices of different cellular companies in the city.

CRUSHED: A middle-aged man was crushed to death beneath a locomotive in Landhi Monday.

Ashraf, 55, was crossing the tracks when he was crushed beneath a locomotive near Muzzafarabad Colony. Police shifted the body to JPMC.

WOUNDED: An official of the City District Government Karachi (CDGK) was seriously wounded when he was fired upon near Gul Bai on Monday.

Fayyaz Jatoi was passing through Gul Bai in his car when unknown persons on a motorcycle opened fire on him and fled.

The victim was rushed to Civil Hospital. Hospital sources described his condition serious. Police said that the victim was a sub-engineer in Keamari Town.
