Iranian Wahid seizes 3rd leg

SUKKUR, March 13: Another Iranian Wahid Naurozi seized the 160km Moro-Sukkur third leg of Tour de Pakistan cycle race on Sunday, covering the distance in 3:53.30 seconds.

A total of 64 cyclists set out on their journey from Moro in the morning and reached Sukkur Babarloi bypass amid rising temperatures, where they were warmly welcomed by hundreds of sports lovers, district nazim Sukkur, DCO and members of Sukkur Cyclists Association.

Muslim Temori, another Iranian came second with Sindh’s Suhail close on his heels at third position. The 4th, 5th and 6th went to Iran’s Javed Moosavi, Pakistan Railway’s Qamar and Germany’s Victor, respectively.

Javed who had taken lead with wins in the first and second legs, from Karachi to Hyderabad and Hyderabad to Moro, could not make it from Moro to Babarlio, and young Naurozi raced ahead to win the third leg.

The race will terminate at Qila Bala Hisar, Peshawar on March 23, secretary general Pakistan Cycling Federation Khwaja Idrees Haider told a luncheon hosted by sponsors Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) at the end of third stage.

He said the cyclists would have two nights rest in Rahimyar Khan after they reached there from Sukkur on Monday afternoon. A total of 69 racers had pedalled off from Moro but five of them met accidents en route due to slippery road at some places, Khwaja said.

Later, district nazim awarded prizes to the first, second and third position holders.—APP
