LAHORE, March 13: Fancied bay mare, Native Force, scored an easy victory in the feature event, the Mohy-ud-Din Muhammad Aurangzeb Alamgir Cup run over 1200m during the 28th Lahore Winter Meeting at the Racecourse on Sunday.

Owned by Shahid Mahmood, the winner was piloted by jockey Aamar Parvaiz. Native Force beat Puma The Great by about six lengths, who nosed out Mera Chandiwala to third place by a head’s margin.

The Runner completed the frame among sixteen contenders, left in the field after the withdrawal of Aya Chandiwala.

The main supporting and fourth event, the Evernew Plate, a class four handicap race to be run over 1200m was won by even-money favourite Baker Lard.

The bay colt from Baker’s Gate out-of- Lady Dunit, Baker Lard beat bay gelding, End Play, by one length after a close contest.

Blu’s Wendy and Owais Prince completed the board among eight runners. Favourite bay colt Best Trace owned by Omar Zaheer and trained by Tauqeer Ahmad was the best performer of Sunday’s card.

He beat Beena Rai Baby by a big margin of eight-and-a-half lengths. Silver Queen and Charming King completed the frame.

Jockey Azeem Pervaiz excelled among the riders when he brought home a brace of winners.

He first rode Best Trace in an arm-chair ride in the third race and then followed it up with a hard fought win on Baker Lard in the fourth race.

Both his winners were saddled by trainer Tauqeer Ahmad.

The Lahore Race Club (LRC) stewards fined rupees five thousand each to three trainers for violation of horse-shoe rule. They were Abdullah, Mohammad Hanif and Azhar Ali.

Their horses Raad, Royal Performance and Mera Chandiwala were found to have prohibited shoes in pre-race check-up in the first, fourth and fifth race, respectively.

Five-year-old bay gelding, Cross Ruff, gave his joint owners messers Masood Pervaiz and Javaid Khalid, a consolatory victory in the seventh and last race of the day.

They had lost the supporting and fourth race when their jointly owned gelding, End Play was beaten by Baker Lard in a closely contested race.

In the sixth race, the stewards changed the rider of Mutyar. Riding boy Zameer was replaced with jockey Salah-ud-Din II.

The change proved fruitful and saw Mutyar winning hands down. Such a change of riders is welcomed by all concerned.

Four favourites obliged the punters when a card of seven races was gone through in the post Derby race meeting.
