KARACHI, March 13: The syndicate of the Dow University of Health Sciences has approved increasing the number of teaching and medical staff at its various departments and affiliated hospitals including the Civil Hospital Karachi, Lyari General Hospital and the Ojha Institute of Chest Diseases.
Following discussions in its fourth meeting on Saturday, the DUHS Syndicate members agreed that each of the varsity’s department would be staffed by two assistant professors instead of one.
It was pointed out that since at varsity level such personnel played dual roles, either as clinicians and researchers, or clinicians and teachers, hence an increase in their number would benefit both students and the respective institutions.
The syndicate further resolved that senior professors of the DUHS would be promoted to grade 21 as per rules and regulations.
The list of research and managerial officers who were selected through the process of short-listing and interview for various posts was also agreed upon by the syndicate members.
The syndicate committee, in the meeting, also deliberated the drafts of three major sections of the proposed code being prepared by the DUHS. Rules and regulations regarding service, affiliation and migration were passed with minor modification.
The syndicate committee members also felicitated the varsity’s administration for conducting its first professional MBBS exams in record time.—APP
