Gold Cup semis today

RAWALPINDI, March 11: The semifinals of All-Pakistan Aga Khan Gold cup hockey will be played at Army Hockey Stadium on Saturday.

PTCL will be up against Pakistan Steel in the first semifinal at 1.00pm while the second semifinal will be played between National Bank of Pakistan and Pakistan Army at 3.00pm.

The final will be played at 3.00pm. on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Hockey Federation-approved all-Pakistan coaching and umpires courses also concluded here on Friday.

The participants were feted at a luncheon on the concluding day. Speaking on the occasion, the Director of Army Sports, Brig. Salim Nawaz Malik, urged District Hockey Association, Rawalpindi, to make the Army Stadium the hub of hockey activities in the city.

They said Rawalpindi had produced Olympians like Muhammad Ashfaq, Muhammad Riaz, Naseer Bunda etc. and opening of facilities like Army Hockey Stadium would help revive the game in the city.

Nearly 40 umpires attended the umpiring course conducted by international Faiz Muhammad Faizi.

The coaching course was conducted by Olympians Asif Bajwa and former international Khwaja Muhammad Owais.—APP
