KARACHI: Setting up of check-posts on bypass ordered
KARACHI, March 11: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has directed the concerned officials to get constructed a check-post at every 15th kilometre along the Northern Bypass.
He stressed on maintaining a strict watch on crime in border areas of the province, especially on entry/exit routes, to check movement of stolen vehicles.
He issued the directives while talking to TPOs at Surjani Town police station on Thursday evening.
Adviser on Local Government Waseem Akhtar, MPA Mohammed Hussain, IGP Asad Jehangir, DCO Fazalur Rehman, as well as CCPO Karachi, DIG Operation and other officials, were also present on the occasion.
The governor’s review of the law and order was the fourth in the series of such deliberations he held with regard to the situation in various towns of Karachi. Earlier, he had visited North Nazimabad, Gulberg and Gulshan-i-Iqbal towns for the purpose.
In the interior of Sindh also, the governor had visited various districts in this regard and had issued directives for measures towards improving law and order.
In his visit to Surjani Town, Dr Ibad emphasized the need for a constant watch along the highways and the areas bordering Sindh.
He ordered that action be taken without any discrimination to free the state land from occupation encroachment.
Dr Ibad also directed officials that measures be taken to control street crimes in their areas.
He issued directives for the provision of two mobile vans to Surjani Town for increased patrolling along the Northern Bypass and ordered setting up of motorcycle police force in the town with the provision of motorcycles in adequate number.
HYDERABAD PACKAGE: Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has called for measures for the shifting of Hyderabad Sabzi Mandi to its new location within three months.
He also stressed on attaining faster progress on road and sewerage projects in the city.
Chairing a meeting at the Governor’s House on Hyderabad package and other projects being executed in the city, the governor issued necessary instructions to the authorities concerned in this regard.
The meeting was attended by Senior Finance Minister Syed Sardar Ahmed, Planning Minister Shoaib Bukhari, Adviser on Local Government Waseem Akhtar, District Nazim Makhdoom Rafiquzzaman, Principal Secretary Akhtar Zamin, ACS Local Government Saleem Khan, Secretary Agriculture Sabhago Khan, DCO Hyderabad Mohammed Hussain Syed and other concerned officials.
Dr Ibad said that a public park be built at the old Sabzi Mandi site. He also issued directive for the installation of a treatment plant within two months for the disposal of sewage from the site of the new Sabzi Mandi.
The meeting discussed the problem of sewage disposal into Phuleli Canal. He gave the concerned authorities one-month time to making headway in arranging the sewage disposal at some other place through a pipeline. He asked the authorities to remove any bottlenecks in this regard.
He made it clear that under no circumstances the disposal of sewage into a reservoir of drinking water would be allowed.
He also reviewed the progress achieved so far on the sewage disposal and drinking water projects being executed under the Governor Package.
It was decided that a 48-inch dia sewerage pipeline would be laid along the Phuleli Canal at a cost of Rs120 million. The canal would become safe after the completion of the project.
The meeting also took decision on power supply to the villages around Hyderabad city, construction of Shah Makki Road and completion of Sarfaraz Colony Road project on a priority basis.
The governor asked for the completion of work on filter plant within the stipulated time. He said that arrangements be made for filtering the entire quantity of drinking water.—APP
