ISLAMABAD, March 11: Al-Ghurair Group of the UAE plans to participate in the proposed pipeline projects for gas import and other energy sector investment opportunities in Pakistan.

A delegation of the group led by Issa Abdullah Ghurair held a meeting with Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Friday and discussed with him investment options in Pakistan.

The prime minister told the delegation that the government was in the process of taking far reaching decisions to meet growing energy requirements in the coming years to ensure an uninterrupted energy supply for continued economic growth.

The group has already made investment in the real estate in Pakistan, both in commercial and residential projects. The group is also interested in bidding for upcoming public sector projects.

The Al-Ghurair Group also plans to set up a power plant through upcoming international competitive bidding of three projects in Uch, Lahore and Faisalabad.

The prime minister welcomed the initiative of the group and said that growth in Pakistan’s economy had created ample opportunities for investors. He expressed the hope that foreign investors would take advantage of the economic policies being pursued by Pakistan and efforts made to reduce the cost of doing business and creating a business-friendly environment.
