Downpour, hailstorm lash Okara

OKARA, March 10: The district was hit by heavy and continuous rain and hailstorm, injuring dozens of persons and damaging crops on Thursday.

The area was lashed by two-hour-long heavy rain and hailstorm on Wednesday evening and then the rain continuously poured down all night which had been termed the heaviest rain of the season.

The district’s rural and urban areas are flooded with rain water, while the heavy winds damaged the wheat and maize crops, besides vegetables.

Dozens of people were reportedly injured in various accidents caused by rains and hailstorm.

A women Rukhsana of 34-2R village, who got injured when a wall collapsed owing to the rains has been admitted to hospital. Ravi Farmers Association president Rai Muhammad Saleem Kharl on telephone said that the government must calculate the damage done to the crops in the area owing to the heavy rains and hailstorm and relief be announced for the farmers in revenue collection.
