Talks for Israeli army pullback break down

JERICHO, March 9: Israeli-Palestinian talks to launch an Israeli army pullback from West Bank cities broke up without agreement on Wednesday, Palestinian officials said.

The Israeli redeployment, agreed at a summit a month ago then put on hold after a Feb 25. Palestinian suicide bombing, is key to Middle East peace efforts. Palestinian President and Israeli Defence Minister signalled on Tuesday that the pullback would start soon.

But Haj Ismail Jaber, head of Palestinian security forces in the West Bank, said a meeting with Israeli officers had failed to finalise details for the hand over. -Reuters
