KARACHI: Two MQM activists shot dead in Liaquatabad

KARACHI, March 9: Two activists of the Muttahida Quami Movement were shot dead near Muttahida's Al-Karam Square office in Liaquatabad on Wednesday evening.
Police said as official jeep (GL-3273) carrying the Muttahida men negotiated a turn near Al-Karam Square, three men on two motorbikes sprayed it with bullets and fled. Both the occupants of the jeep suffered bullet wounds and died on the spot.
They were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced them dead. They were identified as Naushad Ahmed Shaikh alias Major Dandy and his driver Mehmood Jauharwala.
"The occupants were in their Potohar jeep when they were attacked. One of them was identified as Naushad. He was a deputy director in the land department of the city government", said acting IGP Asad Jahangir.
"Naushad was allegedly involved in several criminal cases and was on bail as cases against him are pending in courts. "Earlier, an attempt was made on his life some months back in which Naushad suffered a bullet wound and drove himself to a hospital", city police chief Tariq Jamil said.
Police sources said Naushad was appointed an ASI in the police department but was dismissed after he was found involved in criminal cases and got himself absented from duty.
MURDERED: A businessman was found dead in his office in New Karachi Industrial Area on Wednesday. Police said Abdul Qayoum, owner of Eagle Traders, was found in a pool of blood and a pistol was also recovered from the spot.
His body was shifted to Abbasi Hospital for postmortem where hospital sources said a bullet pierced through his temple. In another incident, a young girl ended her life after discord with her sister in Gulbahar late Tuesday night.
Elizabeth, a resident of Hasan Colony, allegedly had a quarrel with her sister over some petty matter. Later, she consumed some poisonous substance. She was taken to Abbasi Hospital where she died during treatment, police said.
KILLED: Body of an unknown man was recovered in Landhi on Wednesday. Police said an unidentified body was recovered near a private hospital in Sector 5-1/2 early Wednesday morning. Police shifted the body to JPMC for autopsy.
ACCIDENT: A young man died in a road accident in North Nazimabad on Wednesday. Mustafa, 32, was crossing the main North Nazimabad Road near Masjid Siddiq-i-Akbar when an unknown vehicle knocked him down. He was taken to Abbasi Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
In another accident, a young boy died in a hit and run accident in Orangi. Police said Bakhat Shah, 15, was crossing a main road in Mominabad area when a speeding minibus knocked him down and sped away. The boy was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
