GUJRANWALA, March 7: The Water and Sanitation Agency has declared some 71 sewerage schemes illegal and defective and asked the city tehsil council to take action against the union council Nazims and Naib Nazims who got constructed these schemes without any approval.

While briefing the Gujranwala Development Authority director-general at a meeting here on Monday, Wasa Managing Director Bashir Tarar and Director Pervaiz Khokhar said these schemes had been completed by the Nazims and Naib Nazims only to appease their voters.

They said the schemes had been completed without any planning and substandard material used in their construction. Resulting which the same had collapsed and the city tehsil council started criticizing Wasa for not making proper arrangements for the disposal of water from streets and roads.

They said a decision had already been taken that no sewerage scheme would be completed in the city without the approval of Wasa. They asked the city tehsil council to take a legal action against the Nazims and Naib Nazims for spending funds on defective sewerage schemes.

WARRANTS: The excise and taxation department on Monday issued arrest warrants for some 100 defaulters, including industrialists and traders, for not clearing their outstanding dues. It is stated that millions of rupees are outstanding against the defaulters.
