Atrocities in Shopian condemned

SRINAGAR, March 6: Chairman Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front Muhammad Yasin Malik has denounced Indian army's brutalities in Shopian where residents were forced to remain outdoors for six days in severe cold and a school child was martyred during firing and lathi-charge on a peaceful demonstration.

Kashmir Media Service quoted him as saying that while on the one hand Kashmiris were suffering collateral losses due to heavy snowfall, on the other hand the Indian army had stepped up custodial killings, search operations, crackdowns and illegal arrests which had further deteriorated the situation.

He made an impassioned appeal to the international human rights organizations to play role in stopping gross violations of human rights in Kashmir and help resolve the Kashmir issue in accordance with the wishes and aspirations of its people.-PPI
