GUJRANWALA: 70pc education projects complete

GUJRANWALA, March 6: At least 70 per cent development schemes of educational institutions in the district have been completed at a cost of Rs111.5 million.

This was said by Provincial Transport Minister Rana Shamshad Ahmad Khan on Sunday while speaking at a prize-distribution ceremony at the Government Boys High School, Kamoki on Sunday.

The minister said additional classrooms, boundary walls, drinking water and furniture had been provided under the schemes.

He said the Punjab chief minister had released Rs150 million for each district of the province to provide better educational facilities to students to enhance literacy rate up to 100 per cent.

District Coordination Officer Fazeel Asgher, Executive District Officer (education) Raja Khadim Hussain and other senior officials besides, teachers and parents were also present.

LOOTED: Four outlaws entered the house of Ghulam Sarwar in Jalal Balagan village and took the inmates hostage, locking them in a room. They collected Rs100,000, gold jewellry and other valuables from the house and escaped.

In another incident, two helmet-wearing robbers intercepted Tanvir Ahmad on Talwandi road when he was on his way to his village on his motorcycle (STM-5655). They deprived him of cash, a mobile phone, and after firing at him also took away his motorcycle. The injured was rushed to the DHQ hospital in critical condition.

MEHFIL-I-QIRAT: An international 'Mehfil-i-Qirat' organized by the district administration and the auqaf department is being held here on Monday (today), says a press release.
