NAROWAL, March 6: Saturday's train accident on the Narowal-Lahore section near Babakwal which left five people dead occurred due to the negligence of the railway authorities who ignored complaints of poor condition of track , say people who commute this section frequently.

Talking to this correspondent, Parvaiz Akhtar Uppal said that he and a number of others had informed railway chief engineer Yaqoob Ali Zardari about the defective and deteriorated condition of the track about three months back.

Hafiz Abdul Qayyum, another traveller, said the federal inspector of railways Saleem Akhwand had also visited the section in January last but no repair was taken in hand.

Tanzeem Shehrian Narowal has meanwhile demanded registration of criminal cases against the responsible railway officials under Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).

INJURED: Ten of the injured passengers who were admitted to Mayo Hospital after the 211-Up train derailment were discharged on Sunday, reports APP. Hospital sources said that the condition of remaining six injured was stable.
