SIALKOT, March 5: District Nazim Mian Naeem Javaid has announced the establishment of a new Citizen Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) in Sialkot with the consultation of the district government , local business community and the District Public Safety Commission (DPSC).

The district administration had locked the offices of the Sialkot CPLC besides removing all sign boards from the police secretariat in Sialkot on March 2.

Sources said the step had been taken after the dissolution of the CPLC by the district assembly in its special session on Aug 8, 2004. It had also passed various condemnation resolutions in that session.

Convener Chaudhry Arsal Waqar Ghuman had dissolved the CPLC alleging that the organization had become a gang of the local business tycoons.

Addressing a meeting, the District Nazim said that the new CPLC would be made more effective. He said that Punjab Governor Khalid Maqbool would soon notify the new CPLC.

POLLUTION: Punjab Industries Minister Muhammad Ajmal Cheema has said that the government is making efforts to minimize pollution caused by industrial sector in the province.

He was addressing participants of the concluding session of five-day training workshop held here.
