Wanted militant arrested in Quetta

QUETTA, March 4: One of the most wanted leaders of the defunct Lashkar-i-Jhangvi Ramzam Mengal who is alleged to be involved in a number of terrorist incidents and killing of about 130 people has been arrested in Quetta. He carried a reward of Rs1 million on his head.

City police chief Rafi Pervaiz Bhatti told newsmen on Friday night that Ramzan Mengal was apprehended while he was going to a mosque in the Sariab suburbs of the city.

He said that the suspect was behind the attacks on Imambargah and Muharram procession in Quetta in which more than 100 people were killed. He was also involved in other sectarian attacks and killings.

Mr Bhatti said that 18 FIRs had been filed against the man. He said that Ramzan had been living in the Sariab area under the assumed name of Irfanullah. Police acted on information about his presence in the area received from a source in the locality.
