Efforts to end rifts in MMA to continue

PESHAWAR, March 4: Provincial MMA and JUI-S president Qazi Abdul Latif has said that efforts for reconciliation will help keep the alliance intact.

Briefing newsmen after his meeting with members of a reconciliation committee, Qazi Latif said dialogue for removing their reservations had been positive.

He said the present political situation demanded, "unity to steer the country out of the difficult situation". Mr Latif said the efforts would continue unless the results were achieved.

"We will consult party leader Maulana Sami-ul-Haq and apprise him of the details of meetings," he said. The MMA leader said the government should take all political parties into confidence to save the country from the crisis.

The Pakistan army, he said, had been called out to control its own people in South Waziristan, Balochistan and Gilgit while India was increasing their defence budget day by day. In reply to a query about Kalabagh dam, Mr Latif said it was a controversial project and the government should avoid building the dam. -PPI
