KARACHI, March 1: PIA took another step towards winning their first Patron's Trophy after sealing a semi-final berth with an innings and one-run victory over last season's champions Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited at the UBL Sports Complex on Tuesday.
ZTBL were bowled out for 160 in the second innings on the third afternoon of the match with young left-arm medium-pacer Najaf Shah claiming five for 41 with excellent support from Imran Tahir. The leg-spinner grabbed four for 59 as PIA moved to the top of Pool 'A' standings with 27 points.
Resuming at 56 for three, ZTBL never really threatened to take the game to the final day as Najaf took four of the last seven wickets to fall. For the second time in the match, Shahid Yousuf emerged as the highest scorer for the outgoing champions.
The diminutive right-hander struck four boundaries in scoring 43 off 72 deliveries before being caught by Bazid Khan off Imran. Moin Khan, the PIA captain, held three catches.
