KARACHI, March 1: Police shot dead an unidentified suspected bandit and recovered weapons and a tempered motorcycle from his possession in Gulshan-i-Iqbal on Tuesday.

Gulshan Town Police Officer Asif Ajaz told Dawn that ASP Noman Siddiqui was passing through Hassan Square when he spotted a man wearing a helmet on a parked motorcycle with fake registration number.

The TPO said that when ASP Noman tried to approach him, the suspect fled on motorcycle. However, he was chased to an extent that he left the motorcycle and started running by opening fire at the police. The ASP retaliated by opening fire as a result the suspect suffered two bullets and died, he added.

Police recovered two TT pistols and Rs4,400 cash from his possession. Later, police shifted the body to JPMC. The TPO said that according to the Chassis No (03234) of the motorcycle, its Registration No was KCB-5875 stolen from Malir City police limits on March 10, 1993.

However, as per its engine number (03400), the motorcycle has Registration No KCI-5903 stolen from Artillery police limits on Aug 29, 1992. In its present state, the motorcycle is black Honda 125 having registration plate inscribed with an alphabet "P", the TPO added.
