KARACHI, March 1: Sindh Education and Literacy Department notified on Tuesday the new academic calendar with the commencement of classes one to ten and twelve from August along with complete schedule of examinations and asked all the quarters including private schools to follow it in letter and spirit.

According to the notification, the annual examination 2005 from class I to VIII will start from May 10 and the result will be announced by May 30. The examination of class IX and X will be held from April 5 and the results will be declared by July 31.

The examination of class XI and XII will start from May 17 and the results will be announced by Aug 31. All the schools and colleges have been asked to finalize the process of admissions latest by July 30 so that the academic session for the class I to X and XII can commence by Aug 01. The admissions in class XI are to be completed by Aug 31 and the classes will start from Sept 01.

The department has further announced that the performance of the students from class I to III will be assessed orally and on their attendance and class performance by their teachers. The vacations and holidays have also been reviewed: Summer vacations from June 01 to July 31; winter vacations from Dec 24, 2005 to Jan 02, 2006.

The other holidays are as follows: Eidul Azha-two days, Kashmir Day Feb 05, Muharamul Haram-two days, Pakistan Day March 23, Eid Miladun Nabi (12 Rabiul Awwal), May Day 1st May, Independence Day August 14, Eidul Fitr-two days, Iqbal Day Nov 09 and Quaid's birthday Dec 25. Due to annual examinations of IX and X, the classes of 1 to VIII will remain suspended from April 04 to 23. -PPI
