KARACHI: Inter-collegiate Qirat, Naat competition


KARACHI, March 1: An inter-collegiate Qirat and Naat competition was held at the St Joseph's Government College for Women, marking the opening of its' annual student's week on Tuesday.

As many as 14 teams, each comprising of a Qari and a Naat Khawan, from eminent educational institutions of the city took part in the event. Bushra Fatima of Sir Syed College for Women and Shamsa Fuzhir Rehman from Government College for Women, Korangi No 4, won the competition.

In the Qirat contest, Fauzia Fazal of Karachi University stood second while Haris Asad from DHA College for Men secured third position. The certificate of excellence was awarded to Usman Naeem of Karachi Grammar School.

In the Naat competition, Sadaf Saba of PECHS Government College for Women was declared second. She was followed by Syeda Nazia Ashraf from Sir Syed University. The Executive District Officer (EDO) Education, Prof Rais Alvi, was the chief guest. He praised the performance of the students and distributed the prizes among the winners of the Qirat and Naat Khawani contests. -APP
