NAUSHAHRO FEROZE, Feb 27: Crops on hundreds of acres of land and seven villages were inundated when a 40-feet breach occurred in the Nusrat Canal near Padidan town on Saturday night.

The affected villages include Narejo Rajpar, Malook Lashari, Aman Rajpar, Aarijo, Fateh Mohammad Punjabi, Akbar Gomo and Rind. The villagers tried to collect household items on the self-help basis as no rescue action was taken by the irrigation department for plugging the breach.

Naushahro Feroze DPO Iqbal Dara, TPO Tharushah and other officials reached the spot. The villagers also took out a procession in Padidan town in protest against the officials of the irrigation department.

They marched on the different roads and reached the railway station where they staged a sit-in. They complained about indifferent attitude of the irrigation officials and held them responsible for not maintaining embankments. About seven tractor-trolleys and 20 employees of the irrigation department and villagers were busy in plugging the breach till the filling of this news.
