HYDERABAD: Sindh varsity to purchase 100 buses

HYDERABAD, Feb 27: The University of Sindh syndicate at its 143rd meeting held here on Saturday approved purchase of 100 buses to provide better transport facilities to students.

The syndicate approved the purchase of the busses in phases in view of a report of the university's transport department. Twenty buses will be purchased in the first phase which will save the university Rs5.4 million a year.

The meeting, presided over by Vice Chancellor Mazharul Haq Siddiqui, also increased salaries of research associates working as technical faculty in various institutes and departments from Rs6,000 to 7,500 per month.

It approved establishment of a fresh water prawn hatchery project and a disease diagnostic laboratory at the Allama I. I. Kazi campus in Jamshoro as a joint venture with the Sindh fisheries department.

It also approved the minutes of the selection board held in January and February in connection with appointments and promotions of faculty members in various departments.

The syndicate appreciated efforts of the vice-chancellor in development of the university and improvement of quality of higher education, research and co-curricular activities at the campus.
