By Bureau Report

HYDERABAD, Feb 27: Activists of the Jeay Sindh Mahaz and residents of different villages of Shah Bukhari Deh held a protest demonstration outside the press club here on Sunday against possible emission of poisonous gas from the Jamshoro Joint Venture Gas Plant, recruitment of outsiders in the plant and denial of facilities to local people.

Speaking on the occasion, divisional JSM coordinator claimed that the gas plant had been illegally established in the residential and agricultural area which could affect the health of people due to emission of poisonous gas.

He said thousands of local people had applied for jobs in the gas plant but the management had ignored them. He said there were 150 security guards but all of them were outsiders.

He warned that if local people were not given employment and steps were not taken to check the emission of poisonous gas from the plant, protest demonstrations would be held outside the plant.

They further demanded that appointment of outsiders in industrial units of Sindh should be banned, Industrial Relations Ordinance, 2002, be repealed and minimum wages of workers be fixed equal to the price of 10 grams of gold.

They warned that people of Sindh would not accept construction of the Kalabagh dam and the greater Thal canal and bifurcation of the Hyderabad district.
